Alive Inside

Bloggers who knew Yazan virtually or in person can only express the unforgettable impression he leaves on them.

Yazan's blog was the first blog I read among Syrian bloggers, and he and I didn’t have a very good start. But that did not stop me from reading his blog and eagerly following his witty comment on other bloggers' posts.

Yazan is one of the smartest people I met in my life, he has just a clear mind, and he can easily pinpoint the flaws in anyone's argument. I can surely say that his intellect made me change my mind too many times.

Its not just his intelligence that I admire , but also his humanity and his un-nationalistic love to Syria. To me, he's one of the inspiring Syrian citizens.

Though Yazan is the only child of his parents, he is never alone among us all sisters and brothers. We have been reading him, get excited for him, support him, and rarely disagreeing with him for years, almost a year now for myself. He is the friend, and his loss is our loss indeed.

In this black moment, I can only repost Yazan's lightening posts of his father's words whose memory along with Om Yazan's will always be alive inside:

"Never trust a man that does not dance, or a woman that does not laugh."

"نحن سلالة لا تدخل الأوطان إلا من منافيها"-

May they rest in peace.

A fellow Syrian blogger has lost his parents in a car accident ya Ibn Bint Jbeil, we went to see him today, I got a lot more depressed! Its really not "feeling sorry" but rather watching him not able to share his worries, thoughts and feelings with us, I think it is better to leave the sad alone than "being there for them" when you're not really are. I like to talk to people, really talk, I hate to be worthless. I hate traditions. I guess I am a bit angry and depressed right now. excuse me.

Hi Golaneya, I am sorry my earlier comment was misplaced (was supposed to post it somewhere else)...I think I am getting old and senile!
I just wanted to tell you not to get depressed, it's normal of anyone who had lost a loved one to be in a state of shock, denial and numbness for a while, sooner or later, he/she will reach a resolution to move on with his/ her life...
let's just pray that allah imparts Yazan the strength to pull through this ordeal..
I am coming on vacation soon (my annual holiday) so I guess I'll talk to him then and see him in person if possible, inshallah, he will have pulled himself together by that time...
Again, I am sorry for the misplaced comment, and thanks for standing by Yazan on the behalf of us all...

dubai jazz expressed my sentiments.

understanding comes with time, sometimes a whole lifetime; it is a result of going through the difficulty of experiences and gaining knowledge, and tempering that with patience. patience is a gift from allah to the individual, cultivated by the individual with great effort and contemplation. give him time.

i think we are faced with such experienes, which allah describes as bala2, in order to get to a point of understanding by the end of our life, yet not just understading, but also acceptance. not the kind of acceptance where you are accepting of such things as oppression and injustice, but the kind of acceptance where you come to an acceptance of life through an understanding of life.

allah says, "wa la sawfa yo3teeka rabbuka fatarda." i believe that the true meaning of this is not that allah will one day bless you with all kinds of riches and trivial material things, just be patient and it will come and you will be happy ("radi",) but i think that the true meaning of that aya is that you will get to a point in your life, if you cultivate such understanding, that you will accept what allah gives you even as you strive for other things, because you have come to an understanding, after many years of contemplation, that whatever he gives you is just enough for what you need at that very moment in order to achieve understanding. am i being too cyclical and redundant?

after all, true happiness comes from discovering truth, and that knowledge comes after a life of experiences.

Ibn Bint Jbeil and Dubai Jazz, thank you for your comments, we might have a different approach to life, understanding life and its trivially, but we sure agree on one's capability to get through the pain in her/his own way. I am sure Yazan as a special intelligent young man has his own way to "live" through the pain.

Sharm, thank you for your invitation, and nice idea for launching a blog. I would like to join your blog but i think we disagree fundamentally on reading the region's politics.
I think whereas your blog seeks peace it yet sees Hamas, like the West, as a non-peace seeker. I find it difficult to understand how resistance would want anything but peace to its country. I think your blog should put Israel instead, not only as an occupier and a terrorist, but also as "the" party which does not want peace in the Arab world.

My blog is one of the strongest supporters of "any" resistance to "any" occupation in the world, certainly a supporter to Hamas and Hezbolla.

Thank you again for the invitation, good luck with the blog.

Hi Golanyia,

I recently added you to my blogroll. I have read some posts from you but I was surprised by your statement on your blog for being sorry for Arab Jews. Although I do agree with the idea of the blog and found it quite creative, I do not agree that we Arabs did anything wrong to Jews, neither that we should feel sorry for the racism they encounter in Israel.
I am furious and I label your attitude as one of these insidious attitudes (although sometimes unassumed) where messages of support for the Palestinian cause are made visible on a blog's agenda in order to draw the reader to another set of ideas bashing Muslims and Arabs.

I don't agree with this line and i am delinking to your blog. Please yourself to do the same with the link you inserted on your blog for mine.

I always feel that the Palestinian cause has many bad defenders.

Good Luck,

Sophia

Sophia,
You are welcome to delink any link you wish.
I think you took a quick and a harsh judgment on me when assuming that I carry a hidden agenda in my blog and using the Palestinian cause to promote it based merely on the word "sorry". This apology means many things, including the meaning you provided, but not necessarily it.
How can you judge my reading to Arab Jews case when I haven’t written any post yet on my Arab Jew blog? How can you judge without yet asking me what I mean by that statement?
You read the header line and that's it?? I am a bad defender of Palestinians and now I have an agenda?
I thank God you don’t know me.
I always liked your blog, but I am sorry to see you as a hasty reader who makes judgments in the dark.
and you're right, there are bad defenders of Palestine, they are bad readers.
Good luck
